Chorus: G C G D D7 G

Verse 1:

C G
Let me tell you a story though I hope it’s one you know.
             D D7 G
About a pretty girl named Mary and her brand new husband Joe.
C G
They had to pay their taxes in a town far far away.
          D D7 G
By the time they finally walked there; there was no place to stay.

Verse 2:
So they went out to the stables where the hay lay on the ground.
The chicken, cows and donkeys, goats and camels gathered ‘round.
Above them was a bright light; a new star in the sky.
Which wise men had been following; they knew it was a sign.
Of a... (chorus)

Chorus:

      C G
...King born in a stable with animals around.
             D D7 G
Wrapped up tight is swaddling clothing on His little head no crown
         C G
Just a baby in a manger for all the world to see
             D D7 G
More than gold and frankincense and myrrh – the gift’s for you and me.

Verse 3:
When King Herod heard the news about the new star and the child,
He feared he might soon be deposed it all but drove him wild.
He commanded the roman soldiers to send all babies to their crypt.
But an angel had told Joseph “Skedaddle to Egypt.”
With that… (chorus)

G C
If you’ve ever given more
        G
than just a passing thought
         D D7
to the words of love and kindness,
           G
 brotherhood and peace He taught.
                C
His love will burn in your heart
                  G
His light will shine from your face.
              C D
And you can live with him forever
            D7 G
 Saved by His redeeming grace.

Verse 4:
Well I guess they paid their taxes and then they walked back home.
Two hundred miles from momma’s house was all He’d ever roam.
But that’s a different story, and not about the birth
Of the little baby Jesus, King and Savior of the Earth.
